Wonderland Car park to the Pinnacle
Time 2-2 1/2hrs Distance 5.5km (circuit) Grade – Medium - Hard
This is just one of the various ways which you can get to the Pinnacle. Starting off from the Wonderland Car park, you take the walking track up the Grand Canyon. Once you reach this top of section, you are greeted by magnificent views and interesting rocky outcrops. Keep following this section up the rocky platform, past bridal veils and finally scramble through silent street. There are some lovely rock faces, formations and vistas so make sure you take the time to enjoy them and explore.
Once you reach the Pinnacle, the views are spectacular and the irregular rock formations provide hours of entertainment. However be prepared to share the area with large numbers of people, so if you are after solitude and/or unique photo opportunities, I recommend you go up early and during the week to avoid the masses.
On your return, take the sundial car park track. About 300m into the track, there will be another fork on the road, this will lead you through the back way back toward the top of the Grand Canyon. This section is mostly soft sandy soil and low fern forests which makes for an interesting contrast to the rockiness of the Pinnacle and the Grand Canyon sections. It is far less transited than the Grand Canyon, making it a quieter walk thought the views are not so spectacular.
Once you reach the top of the Grand canyon, take the fork on the road toward the wonderland car park. This takes you down the open rocky face. Make sure you have pause here to look at the view as it is truly magnificent!
