Olinda Creek Walking Track
Time 3.5 - 4hrs Distance 11.2 km (return) Grade – easy
This track could have been great, however poor signage, lack of maintenance in some sections and a lack of views made it a rather bland adventure. Nevertheless, being a longer day walk, it is perfect for those wanting to get some stamina before setting off on more challenging day or overnight walks.
To start the walk, park your car in the Stonyford road overflow carpark. Walk down the steps to enter the small park. This is probably the prettiest part of the walk, however poor signage throughout meant that we were never quiet sure if we had taken the correct fork!
You will eventually come to a sign which guides you to the Olinda Walking trail. If you decided to follow the right arrow on the sign (as we did) you will come to the topmost half of the park which meets up with the main road, turn left here and follow the track which almost disappears as it has been very poorly managed at this section to reach the next fork of the track which will take you down and across the wooden bridge and onto the fire trail.
Your will then continue to walk along the fire trail for about 1hr until you reach a locked gate. Here once again the signange is non-existent and it took a little guesswork to figure out in which direction to keep going. Eventually we realised that we had to go over the wire fence and walk down the steep hill.
You will then follow the trail for another few minutes before coming to a road and opposite you will find the Mt Evelyn Recreation Reserve. Return the same way you came.
